Hey everyone,
Welcome to the homepage of our school garden. Here you will be able to track the progress we are making with our school garden and you will also be able to find some good ideas you might try at home in your own garden.
In September 2009 we had the very talented environmentalist, Paddy Madden, out to the school. Paddy spent a lot of time walking around our school, drawing sketches and thinking about how best we could create an educational, exciting and beautiful school garden and this is the amazing and imaginative plan he came up with!
We were so excited when he showed the plan to us but there is a lot of work for the children, teachers and parents to do to get it up and running.
Since then the Parent Teacher Association have done some fund-raising for the school garden which we are very grateful for. We have ordered the trees which the children will be planting along with the help of any parents that are available. After Christmas we hope to make class plots in the Cultivation Zone so that classes can begin growing their own fruit and vegetables in Spring time.
This is such an exciting and fun project. Keep an eye on the blog for further updates and ideas for growing at home. If any parents would like to volunteer to help with the school garden you can speak to Gráinne (learning support teacher) or Drew or you can write your name on the list for the school garden which you will find on the PTA notice board.
Welcome to the Wild Side! Now let’s get our Green Fingers gardening.
Welcome to the school garden. We are going to plant lots of trees and flowers.
The school garden is now well under way. In October and November a lot of parents helped to fill the flower beds with soil and to cover the plot with weed cover and bark mulch. Now our garden is ready to go and we are really looking forward to planting and growing our very own vegetables and flowers. Of course this work could not have been done with out the help given by the following parents of which we are very grateful for!
Paul
Alan
Peter
Ian
Brendan
Carol and the whole family (Thanks!!!)
Vladamir
Margaret
Mark (for making the flower beds)
Eddie
Drew
Your help and generosity of time is much appreciated!
And if you missed out and want to help in the future, don’t worry, the more help we have the better. Just contact me (Gráinne) in the school and I’ll put your name down.
I’ll update you all again in Spring,
Gráinne & Drew (School Garden Co-ordinators)
